We are requesting flexible seating options for the students in my classroom. Flexible seating is a research-based classroom environment that helps foster a love for learning in today's students. It is no secret that children need to move. Flexible seating allows students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand while increasing oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also helps keep students more alert and engaged. Flexible seating gives students choices in the classroom which is such an empowering thing to a student in today's classroom. It gives students the option to choose where they work and lets them change their location and positions as needed. It also creates a comfortable learning environment for students. Think back to when you were in school and how uncomfortable those desks were. An uncomfortable student is a very distracted student and flexible seating offers students the opportunity to learn at their optimal comfort level and in return creating more engaged students. Flexible seating also offers more opportunity for collaboration among students. A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48 percent more in discussions in a classroom with flexible seating than with traditional lecture-style seating. Seating options such as the bouncing balls are even great for students with ADD, ADHD, and ASD because they appeal to a student's sense of touch. This stimulation helps children focus and process information better. Finally, flexible seating makes learning FUN! Students are engaged, actively learning, and having fun while doing so! Help me give my students a fun, innovative way to learn!
