This project is to request funds to purchase quality, multicultural children's literature for my students to read. I will be able to provide my students with literature about different cultures, race, and family structures. Teaching diversity prepares students to be global citizens by exposing them to people from different cultures and social groups. Providing students books with characters that look like them helps to make them feel valued and important. It is important for children to see themselves in the literature they read to help foster a place of acceptance and identity. Also, it is imperative that students read books that feature diverse characters and cultures so that all students feel welcome and accepted. This exposure and education will help teach tolerance, diversity, and the idea that we are more similar than we are different with our peers. These books will be read aloud and given to my students to read while distance learning.
