I think the upcoming school year has left pretty much everyone (teachers, students, parents, & public) feeling a little nervous for a wide array of reasons. There is just so much unknown & it is a bit scary to navigate it all. I've been thinking a lot about how I can run my classroom this year so that it is fun, effective, & as safe as it can be. That's a lot to consider. One thing I have definitely concluded is due to the obvious health concerns this year, we won't be sharing art supplies as we traditionally have. Therefore, I am trying to assemble individual kits for each of my students. Each student having their own art supply kit will hopefully help keep all my students a little safer and allow them the tools to grow their imagination whether we are at home or at school. However, with the number of students I have, the price of art supplies, and a very small budget, this will definitely be a challenge! I've reached out to my community and many have already donated pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, glue, rulers, and other "essential" art supplies. However, I still need sharpeners & I really want to provide individual painting supplies to at least my upper level class so that they can still paint whether at home or school! It's easy to get swept up in everything going on in the world right now. But for me, painting has always provided an outlet to escape what's "out there". When I'm making art, I realize I can't control everything, but can control whats being created right in front of me. Its freeing. I hope to get these supplies in the hands of my students in hopes they can experience the same.
