Each day, I do a short "book talk" to introduce my students to a new novel from our classroom library. My students will have the opportunity to check the books out and take them home to enjoy. Reading books that represent different abilities, cultures, beliefs, and skin colors help us change our attitude toward those differences. Diverse books are important because they teach people about others. They help promote respect and empathy for all types of people. Books have the power to encourage students while at the same time enlighten other readers of the truths about lives they don't live.
