Many of my students come to school for the first time, having little experience interacting with anyone outside their immediate family. The materials I have chosen will provide a space for children to explore and engage alongside a peer in a safe, quiet, and separate area away from the other areas of the classroom. I currently use a social emotional curriculum in the classroom and am looking to enhance the lessons with an area and materials suitable for the students to practice what they've learned in class. After almost a year of children and their families being out of school, work, and daycare, the upcoming school year will be a challenge. My plan is to create a classroom environment that is inviting and stimulating, but focused on emotional well-being. Providing a calming space to go when a child is feeling overwhelmed or vulnerable will be a priority for the upcoming school year.
