These materials will encourage students to WANT to come to class even though it is often the hardest core subject: English Language Arts. Creating an inviting atmosphere is essential for middle school! Even virtually, I will have my classroom in the background during Zoom and recorded instructional videos. My students will get a sense of how the class will feel when they are viewing my classroom through their screens. My students deserve to feel comfortable from home, no matter what their circumstances are, and they deserve to have a unique experience when they get to step in the school building again. While many students struggle in English Language Arts, they will be more motivated when they remember the serenity of the aquarium and colorful lighting. They will also get to experience the comfort of different types of seating rather than standard desks and chairs. Feeling comfortable physically, mentally, and emotionally is extremely important for middle school kids to learn efficiently. While students are my priority, lower back support and standing desks are vital as a teacher. Included in my wish list are items such as a wrist-support mouse pad that will work for students and the teacher. Happy teacher = happy students (and vice versa!)
