We are a rural Title 1 school with limited resources. We are also a dual immersion school- My Spanish colleague and I teach 54 students in 2nd grade. For half the day I teach 27 of them only in English and she teaches the other 27 and only Spanish is spoken. Then we switch students. In my classroom I have always used tables for my students to work on but due to the need for social distancing this coming school year I requested desks but alas! so did several other teachers and there just are not enough extra desks for all of us. So we will be using flexible seating-i.e. sitting on the floor this year. We usually spend time on our class rug but again - social distancing - so all 27 students will spread out all over the room. Lap desks and sit spots (colored dots that Velcro to the floor) would make this so much easier. The spots will indicate where the student will sit and line up to help with social distancing. The lap desks will provide a writing space and work surface. The students can sit upright or lie on their bellies or stand. If you can help we would so appreciate it!
