With the return to school around the corner, and class sizes growing, I am looking to provide a more welcoming and brighter space for my creative artists in our windowless classroom. Having a classroom that feels bigger will impact my students' work by making them feel more at ease in the room so they can be their best self in their artwork. Especially after being inside for most of their summer due to COVID-19, my students need a more airy and open setting to feel comfortable so their anxiety says low and their creativity stays high. The classroom is located in the middle of the building and has no windows. Making the most of the fluorescent lights provided, I am requesting covers to give the appearance of clouds. Additionally, I am requesting various small mirrors collectively to give the illusion of a bigger space. Next, the colorful accents, such as the book shelves ceiling decoration, and posters will play on the lighting and mirrors to make the overall room look and feel brighter; so, that students feel the room is more open and natural. By having these aspects, students can get excited about learning while simultaneously making them feel less claustrophobic in the room. Furthermore, to keep things open I am requesting UV lighting to clean the room in between classes. The sun light will provide some sanitation, but having a quick and easy way to sanitize surfaces will provide much needed support so that students can maximize their time in the classroom creating and inventing instead of cleaning. The overall goal of this project is to give students a safe and welcoming environment so they can focus on being kids and learning.
