Children are preparing to enter a social distancing classroom and its not normal . My plan is to find ways students can engage, move and share with others during this unprecedented time. During my "pandemic" classroom day, I plan to use sensory breaks to get my first graders up moving, creating, distressing and connecting . Students will choose a sensory item to use during each break throughout the day. Slime, dough, and magnetic boards will be divided up for use by each individual student. Students can burn energy from being seated on the hopscotch carpet. They may choose to draw or journal feelings and emotions on white boards. The possibilities for sharing, creativity and connectedness is endless.
