Using these 'dragon tears' gives students hands-on, imaginative opportunities to think conceptually while developing skills in division, multiplication, addition, subtraction, money, bartering, weights and measures. In particular, these 'jewels' have helped struggling students understand long division through proven visualization techniques. Each student will get a set of 'jewels' to work with at home during virtual math lessons and distance learning. On other occasions, students will be awarded jewels for completing assignments and use them for working with partners in small groups. These proven techniques were inspired by the ground-breaking work of Jo Boaler (Mindset Mathematics).
