Once we return to class, I can ignite my students learning with a large dry erase board. Students love to use dry erase boards to compete on teams solving math problems and groups can solve math problems together and explain their thinking to the class. We can have gallery walks looking at how each group solved problems and realizing there is more than one way to get the correct answer. It will be useful for ELA as well. The students can write paragraphs in groups and edit other groups work and write new endings for stories. During centers, my students can use manipulatives to model math problems and magnetic letters to practice spelling words. The white board is a simple tool used during whole group lesson to understand more visually each lesson. The possibilities are endless but most importantly it will enrich cooperative learning and communication while learning our concepts in an engaging way. Hands-on activities and games are essential for learning and engagement! The students in my classroom experience fun, hands-on learning as they rotate through a variety of math and literacy stations. The skills are reinforced in ways that are engaging which help my students stay focused during stations because they are having fun. The games and activities I plan to purchase with the requested Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will be resources that even the students whose parents have chosen to learn remotely could be engaged as well. Studies show that students learn best when learning is active and they are engaged in hands-on games and activities. Making sure that the foundational skills and concepts are mastered in 2nd grade lays down the foundations for future academic success. The games will enrich instruction and expand their love of reading and math. By funding my project, you will also be financially helping other teachers!
