Caring School Community curriculum explicitly teaches social emotional, relationship skills. This program focuses on relationship building not only with school staff but at home and in other environments. On Mondays children are given home connection activity sheets to carry out with anyone spending time with him or her such as a sibling or a daycare provider and return on Fridays. Two times a month buddy activities take place across subject areas. With K to 5, weeks 1 to 10 are taught in order and eighteen topics may be taught in any order except for K-1. School life , Character Building and Social Issues are the three main areas broken up into the eighteen topics/lessons. Daily morning circle takes place with a topic/lesson taught and an activity is carried out during daily closing circle. The Caring School Community curriculum provides "A unique stance on discipline: No more gold stars. A focus on community, not compliance. Caring School Community builds on the powerful insight that when students have strong relationships within their community, they are more likely to acquire self-discipline and feel a sense of responsibility to themselves and to others." With all of what our country and world has been going through I believe this program will help our students really connect with teachers, fellow classmates and others.
