I am super excited for our unit on Electrical Circuits where the students will have to make a string of cut-up christmas lights work without simply plugging them into the wall. The students will be able to build their own game (skeeball, soccer, plinko, etc.) but must have working lights on or around their game. Before the students begin to make their game, they must demonstrate the knowledge of how electrical circuits work. I will also be using the electrical circuit for my online meeting with students where they will be able to view how the process works as I demonstrate the process. The students will also have to demonstrate understanding before moving on to creating their games. I also want to use the Keeping It Hot supplies for students to develop their own knowledge of insulating heat by providing hands-on activities that will make their learning come more easily than just reading about it in a book or teacher-created Power Point. I will ask students/families to collect household items and allow the students to create their own situation (stuck in a Polar Region and need to keep their food/water from freezing) and constructing their own device that will keep their food, water, or other necessary items heated for their survival.
