I provide occupational therapy to young students who have a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. About 1/3-1/2 of students on my caseload have severe autism and are non-verbal. Many others have learning disorders, such as ADHD, developmental delays or speech/language impairments. These young students require occupational therapy intervention to improve their strength, fine-motor skills and sensory processing -- which are all greatly needed to participate in school. These students live in an impoverished urban district New York State. Many have parents who are front-line workers. They live in minority communities that are statistically more likely to be hit hard by Covid 19. This fall, our district will be starting school with remote learning. I would like to provide each student with a small selection of supplies so they can make the most of their Telehealth OT sessions and not lose important ground because of the pandemic.
