During this tumultuous year of living in a pandemic, and experiencing racial and political divides, I want to offer my students a glimpse into other examples of injustice in American history. These graphic memoirs will form a class set that we will read to learn about George Takei’s experience as a young child in a Japanese Internment camp during World War II. As we continue to learn about civil rights and discrimination in my classroom, this piece of history will broaden my students’ understanding of the value of all people groups. Please consider giving to this project knowing that you will increase a young person’s empathy towards a discriminated group.
