Nearpod is an amazing program that allows students to interact with me and their classmates in real time as well as asynchronously. A simple powerpoint is transformed into a virtual field trip, game, quiz, simulation, and more. I'm able to assess students' understanding in real time as we go through new content and allow them to construct their own learning using embedded videos, articles, and collaboration boards. Nearpod allows me to hold class virtually with my students and give them online access to the notes after class for anyone who was absent or simply wants to review. The days of memorizing science facts are gone, and real data analysis and critical thinking are now the skills students need to be successful in science. I'm also asking for you support to purchase chemistry POGILs, Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning activities. POGILs structure introduction to new content such that students are building knowledge and drawing conclusions instead of being given facts and formulas to memorize. Thank you in advance for helping my students grow as thinkers in a time when engaging with science and problem solving together is more important than ever.
