What DOES NOT work via remote learning is the KINESTHETIC portion of the lesson. For this, my students need various supplies to facilitate hands-on learning. For example, magnetic 3D letters and white erase boards are used frequently. Students use the letters to help identify the shape, name, and sound of the letter. Those letters are used to build words, then we switch out certain letters to make a new word. For example, think about using the 3D letters to make the word rain. Then, switch out the letter A and replace it with a letter E. What is the new word (rein)? How is it pronounced? Does it have a new meaning? As I mentioned before, this activity can be done auditory and visually, via Google Meets. However, students with dyslexia need to use their hands and kinesthetic skills to help them learn on a deeper level. This is why it is imperative that I get materials, such as the 3D letters, into the hands of my students.
