I had the opportunity to learn about the science of reading through Texas Reading Academies last school year. The Science of Reading focuses on explicit phonics, vocabulary, and decoding skills woven together with reading comprehension. As a first grade teacher, everything we do is laying the foundation for our students' educational career. My training opened my eyes to how important it is to weave together reading instruction with my science and social studies curriculum. The goal of my project is to provide my students with high quality texts that also teach them the knowledge they need to be successful in other content areas.

About my class
