Having 2000 Unifix Cubes would allow each student to have their own set of 100 blocks. This would enable each student to physically touch the blocks on their own and not have to share with others. Many times when students share, one student does all the work. Each student having their own would allow each student to interact with the assignment. Unifix Cubes can be used for many different things. Students can use them to create patterns, to add, subtract, and to multiply. Multiplication is a big part of the 3rd grade standards. Unfix Cubes allow students to create arrays and manipulate the blocks to solve the multiplication problem. It allows them to visualize, that multiplication is repeated addition or groups of objects. They can actually make 3 groups of 4 and then choose a strategy to solve the problem.
