In first grade, our social studies curriculum focuses on families and cultures around the world. It is important to me that each student feels included in the lessons that we are learning. I am asking for donations to provide a diverse library of books for my classroom and supplement my lessons with a wide variety of diverse activities. When I was a child, I grew up not seeing myself in the books around my classrooms. As a teacher I want to make sure that each of my students see themselves in the books we read. Reading has been a huge part of my life and I cannot wait to instill that love in my students. My classroom currently has few books and of those books they are not very diverse.
