Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning. It promotes student choice, comfort, and an increased sense of community. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive especially during station rotations when they are given a choice seating types. A visually appealing library is also vital to a classroom. A good classroom library helps students locate books easily. It also allows students to develop effective strategies for selecting relevant, interesting, and appropriate reading materials. One of the most popular stations in my classroom is the library and with flexible seating and new books my students will come to school each day with a desire to read. l want my classroom to be a sanctuary for my students and the incorporation of flexible seating and new books for the library will help achieve my mission.
