The Forbush Band program is experiencing the best possible problem; we are growing! With the expansion of the program a strain has been placed on the existing instruments owned by the program. The Forbush Band program owns three bass clarinets, but only one of these instruments is readily functional and in working order. This working bass clarinet has the date of purchase, 1972 carved in the side of the instrument. As one can imagine for an instrument that is older than most of the parents of our students, the instrument is burdened by regular repairs and upkeep. The other two bass clarinets are aging budget models from the 1980s and 1990s and require more money than they are worth in repair work to get functional again. If we succeed in this Donors Choose, this means that we will no longer have to have students sharing instruments, as adding two new bass clarinets to our inventory would allow us to have one bass clarinet for each grade level; ensuring that no students will have to share an instrument. The addition of these instruments would allow Anna and Tom to let younger students begin to learn bass clarinet.. In the time of Covid-19 it will be important for us to take every step necessary to ensure the safety of our students, thus the need for these bass clarinets is imperative. Furthermore, these Yamaha YCL-221 bass clarinets would allow our students to reach new musical heights and help bolster the whole Forbush Band Program to new heights.
