The book Esperanza Rising was written twenty years ago but is still so relevant for my students today. It deals with poverty, immigration, racism, and prejudice. This is a riches to rags story based on the author's family story of leaving Mexico to come to the United States. Students will be reading Esperanza Rising at home, and engaging in discussions, writing essays, and writing in their vocabulary journals during virtual book club. Students who complete the book and activities will receive certificates of achievement. Students will keep the book to add to their home library.
