Students will get the chance in 5th, 6th-grade general music as well as 7th and 8th-grade percussion to learn keyboarding skills and play with the band! They need mallets to play keyboard instruments and we do not have enough for everyone to have the opportunity to play. Mallets break easily and some students would like to take them home with a laminated practice sheet. Due to limited numbers, they don't get to a lot of time to practice their skills. The standards in music curriculum are to create, connect, perform, and respond to music. Not having access to materials to create or perform music limits our students' abilities to have a well-rounded curriculum. This project would give more of my students access to practice at home as well as the ability to play/participate in band. These kids love music and I want to see the program thrive. So many of my students want to practice so they come into my room during lunch just to get the chance to play!
