The title "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You" will provide students a springboard for daring dialogue (held in community circles). The books will empower students to think critically about today's events by exploring the past and by following readings with honest conversations with their peers. Middle schoolers are wonderfully adept at observing, analysing and questioning the current world. They are fantastic problem-solvers, adeptly navigating issues that sometimes adults are too timid to tackle, and they are always willing to boldly name their hopes and fears. Community circles borrow from the practice of restorative justice, wherein students are given a platform to address issues that face an entire group of people. This speaking structure coupled with this wonderful title by Jason Reynolds will serve as a wonderful springboard for the empowerment of young minds.
