Books are the lifeblood of my classroom and I put a heavy emphasis on reading. The best way to practice the literary skills I teach is to apply them. The best way to apply these skills is to read! And the only way my students will read is if I get them excited to do so. Trust me, no teenager wants to read a crusty old book from 1988. I've found that students are more willing to read if they see themselves in the pages of books. Because I serve a diverse population I need a diverse classroom library. The titles selected are stories I believe will generate interest for my students. If distance-learning continues I will make digital recordings of myself reading these novels so my students can follow along. Even being read to can help with comprehension! When we are allowed back in the class I want nothing more than my students to be buried in these titles.
