I was very happy to see the high level of participation and engagement of students in the spring and would like it to continue in the new school year. As part of this, it would not be ideal to have communal supplies and I would like to provide my students with the tools to be successful. They will be developing their critical and creative thinking skills through their assignments. Students will be using the materials to brainstorm and create final drawings for cross-curricular assignments. This would include book cover redesigns, activist artwork, incorporating math concepts, visual literacy, and their favorite sketchbook prompt. I would love to provide my students with art kits to support their creative skills. They are used to working with a variety of materials and I would like to supplement the colored pencils I was able to order with my modest budget. More importantly, having the freedom to choose materials to work with would provide them with a way to cope with the emotional stress caused by the new way to experience school. Research shows that art is a great way to cope with stressful situations, and these materials would help me support my students.
