We will use these Kindle Fire tablets every day in our classroom to support the development of strong reading skills and a deep love of story. We will be able to use them for accountability with literacy centers through the use of digital portfolios. This will allow children to save photos and recordings of their work and oral reading. My students take ownership and pride over their accomplishments from day to day when they have the ability to save and share it digitally. Our classroom listening center will utilize Kindles so that these beginning readers can enjoy exciting stories that are well above their personal reading level. This is a great way to expose them to rich vocabulary and complex characters and story sequences. First graders have a natural love for stories, and listening to books read aloud nurtures this enthusiasm and motivates them to become fluent and confident readers themselves. My goal is to provide them with as many positive experiences with books and stories as possible! If the need for distance learning arises due to COVID-19, I will also be able to check these devices out to students who may not have technology available in their homes.
