I currently have several options in my room for alternative seating, however; due to COVID guidelines most of them have to be removed. The students that come through my doors have trouble staying on task. Alternative seating options have proven to help them. Their favorite seating choices are being removed. I have some students that even take the seats with them to other classes. This helps them focus and remain attentive while learning. They have so much energy and do not have a way to release it when sitting in a traditional desk and chair. Some of these kids are in my room for 80% of their day and they use different seating options for different learning. One uses a cuddle swing when reading her textbooks, another uses wobble board to stand on when working on math. I had 3 students that during online (Covid-19 school shutdown) time I sent home their favorite seating choice. They utilized it when they worked on their schoolwork. The parents were very grateful. They returned the items to me at the end of the school year and asked if we go online if they can use them again. This type of seating works for my room. I do have options for "standard" desk and chair and have one student who prefers it. This is what flexible seating is about. Finding what works for each individual person. I do not have enough funds to replace what is being removed with other options, however; that does not mean that I am not looking and watching swap sites. I WILL have a classroom that my students can feel comfortable in so they are able to concentrate on their studies. If someone would help me with that sooner than later, it would be appreciated.
