Students can not only practice the amazing skill of coding using Dash. Students can use coding in all subject areas! Picture this. Students in my classroom could use Dash the robot to code basic algorithms. They can also use Dash to learn more creatively in math, reading, science, and social studies!
They can program Dash to tell their story, and travel along with a story map as he tells it! I have watched students in other classes write a story, and create a story map. They then use this to program Dash.
Think about math! Dash moves in angles! Students can program Dash to measure different size angles and travel them. Students can use Dash for area and perimeter too. They can create taped figures on the ground and have him travel around to determine side lengths and area or perimeter!
Students also work together to complete these scenarios. This helps students to work on their social-emotional competencies. They learn adaptability, civility, patience, and more.
The possibilities are endless! Students will not only be learning, but they will also be creating long-lasting experiences they take with them!
