With these reading and electronic materials, our students will have what they need to access and maximize all their learning needs. For example, the books selected reflect the titles that are recommended to follow our writing units. These titles are strongly recommended to use with the lessons but then are not provided with the curriculum. Some of the titles are referred to in the teacher world as "mentor texts" that are specifically selected as a model piece of writing to the students so they are aware of the author's craft and how they too can develop such an art. In addition to having the specific books selected, having the tablets would support independent reading time for students. The teacher could be pulling a small group for guided reading instruction while some could be reading on the tablet and others could be writing. The teacher then rotates through groups and all students could have the opportunity to practice and experience all three.
