In our 1000+ student high school in the Gold Country of northern California, students have access to beautiful rural environments but not high tech living. Many of our students' parents and grandparents attended our school and there is tremendous school pride and spirit--just not a lot of high tech opportunities or money! Most internet is still dial-up in our area, though some do have satellite. Approximately 1/3 of our population is on free and reduced lunches and our area has been hard hit by the closure of the local saw mill and the general economic decline with 13% unemployment in the county.
