Students learn best when they are happy and feel valued. Filling their classroom library with books that reflect their backgrounds will benefit their lives in multiple ways. Have culturally diverse books in the classroom allows students to know that everyone is different and that each one of them is unique in some way. Books celebrate differences in characters and by reading that it is great to be different, my students will feel more valued and confident in who they are. Reading books that are culturally diverse also opens up a conversation about the different ethnicities that are not a part of their classroom. Students get the opportunity to learn about all cultures and understand how they are unique.
