The COVID pandemic has shown us the value of technology in our classrooms and its power to engage students in the learning process. During virtual learning, my students were able to dig even deeper into the topics we were learning about in American Government and think critically about how they impact them, their communities, the state, and the country. My students were able to collaborate and find solutions to problems in new and engaging ways. There were many negative impacts of COVID on my classroom, but the integration on technology was not one of them.
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick
My students attend a Title I school and technology is many times difficult to find. Many times, the laptops and Chromebooks are used for standardized testing and not available for classroom use. Also, families may do not always have the funds to purchase laptops and Chromebooks for their children either. I want to use these Chromebooks and the storage chart in my classroom to carry on the progress we started in virtual learning.
