My school has 30 moderate to severe special education students. Each student seeks and requires much sensory input (and some output) by being able to go to a quiet, calming area where they can participate in sensory activities that sooth them by touching soft items, things that make a satisfying noise, swinging and swaying or simply relaxing to a soft song.
My special needs students all benefit from having sensory sessions on an individual or small group basis in a separate room from the classroom where they spend most of the day learning so they can go back to the classroom and be more successful. These materials will provide my students who have sensory processing disorders with the resources needed to start our school's first sensory room, where all special needs students, not just the moderate to severe, can go and unwind their busy minds! These items will allow my students to learn at their highest potential and also make us more successful as teachers by being able to meet our student's needs!
