Today's students live in a world of technology. While so beneficial for them to have technology available to them, we often focus on individual use devices, like iPads. These devices are used for learning games, lessons, and as motivators for students, but for so many of these children the skills they are in desperate need of are social-emotional and self-regulation skills. When interacting solely with a screen, it is difficult to access social opportunities and learn strategies for self-regulation that don't require a device. The Kaplan Inspire Plus will help me weave technology into interactive play and learning times in the classroom. With the capability of an interactive/smart board for large group interactive lessons, and the availability of a 90 degree tilt function turning the interactive board into an interactive table with exclusive learning software will give my students engaging learning experiences through whole group instruction as well as through play based interactive learning. The Inspire Plus Interactive Board will also provide my students with a level of familiarity and comfort, as they are all experts at using a tablet. Together, we will utilize this opportunity, using a known motivator and preferred activity, to explore social interactions and make connections with peers. Connections that, when built upon and strengthened, will ultimately overflow into other areas of the classroom, helping my young learners gain the necessary experience of independently interacting with peers.
