This year I will be teaching a new grade level at a different school. This requires me to build a classroom library from scratch. These books will support the creation of a diverse library filled with high-interest books in order to give my students a variety of genres and topics to choose from when reading independently. As kids come back to school from a long break, I want to make their 3rd-grade year magical, despite all of the new rules and regulations we will have to have in the classroom. Coming in and seeing brand new books will delight my little readers and encourage them to browse the library to chose the book that is perfect for them. Research supports that independent reading has the most significant impact on student success when kids are paired with books at the right level. Simply put, "the more one reads, the better one reads." These books will be used in the classroom during independent reading time and also be available for kids to check out and take home to use for their at-home reading requirements.
