Math instruction in first grade is not a “one size fits all” model. First graders have varying abilities and learning styles. Math tubs will allow students to have a choice in their learning. The math tubs will be filled with colorful and fun manipulatives, games, and activity cards to engage students on all levels. Students will have exposure to many colorful activity cards and games that I will create. They will choose the materials and methods they will use. Materials will encourage students to be actively engaged while learning and communicating with their peers in “math talk”. It will allow them to take on appropriate tasks and responsibility for their own learning.
