The purpose of this project is to equip my students with the necessary math manipulatives for the school year. Each student will receive his/her own box of manipulatives to use throughout the school year at home. These manipulatives will be utilized to model hands-on learning at home through possible distance learning and/or extra practice at home. These manipulatives will spark interest in each student as he/she is modeling and illustrating for a deeper understanding of math concepts. For example, fraction tiles help illustrate fraction equivalency. Algebra tiles will allow the students a hands-on approach to solving a problem before transferring it to a written equation. The dice will be used for numerous games to help build fluency and understanding. These manipulatives will be kept at home and will be a learning resource for the students and parents as they reinforce concepts that are taught throughout the school year. By helping to fund this grant, you will be helping my students all start off with a custom made box of math manipulatives that will be grade specific and can reinforce math concepts right in their own homes.
