I have a unit (new this year) where we explore Jason Reynolds' books. By definition, he is anti-racist! I want some kids to read Ibram X Kendi's original book Stamped and others to read the new version that Jason Reynolds wrote with Ibram X Kendi. I followed that Author Study with the reading of To Kill a Mockingbird this year, and it was powerful to see that we are still (in 2020) far from Atticus' dream. I want to supplement these readings with poetry from diverse voices. Kids need diverse books, especially when they live in a pretty non-diverse state like NH.
