As school resumes this fall, I want to take extreme caution with my students safety, while maintaining an important learning focus, in our classroom. I wish to provide a safe learning environment for my class by having students sit at their own individual desks. Currently, my classroom is set-up for cooperative learning. Students sit 4 per table. These are small tables and will not accommodate a safe distance between students to minimize risk of spreading germs. Additionally, group seating means students have access to each other’s books and supplies. The days of shared books and supplies are gone, and since students currently share tables, books and supplies are at risk for cross-contamination. I would like to ask donors to help me set up my classroom with 28 individual student desks. These desks can be spaced out farther apart to maintain safe social distancing and later, they can be moved closer together to facilitate cooperative learning. Additionally, each desk can house individual student books and supplies. My students can feel safe, knowing that they have their individual space, while fully engaged in learning.
