This project will help teach our students about inclusion, diversity, antiracism, and acceptance. The third grade teachers are committed to making a difference. We can learn. We can support. We can listen. We can stand up. We can start with a good book! Listening to stories read aloud is a proven effective way to increase reading comprehension. Additionally, active reading with choice can foster a love for books, reading, and fluency skills within a child. The books selected in this project are specifically chosen to highlight voices not already amplified within our libraries. These books act as windows into someone else’s perspective and experience, as well as mirrors into their own lives, culture, and identity. These books will help our students further their knowledge both in literacy and in inclusivity.
