By supporting this project, you will be replacing old, worn-out books that have passed through decades of hands, desks, backpacks, and book-boxes. With your support, we will be able to fill our bookshelves with mirrors and windows (not literally), where students will be able to see themselves and their experiences in texts. Students will also be able to see through the pages of these new books into the lives of their classmates, their neighbors, and their city. It has never felt more important than now to give students the opportunity to read and learn about themselves and those who are different from them. The texts that are listed in this project were hand-selected and researched to amplify voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Students in my class will have greater access to stories about difference, struggle, real-world history, which can build empathy, understanding, and compassion. Thank you for considering a donation that will change the lives of many.
