We don't get angry if a student can't multiply two numbers, we simply say use a calculator! What if we had this same thought process surrounding deeper math concepts. If a student can't do harder problems by hand but knows how to use the tools to create a the math and then can interpret the math haven't we made a stronger student? Why does it matter if students can do math by hand? Isn't it more important to understand the surrounding topics and interpret the information in front of them? Having these new calculators will give students the skills of using technology in order to answer deeper mathematical questions. Although there are different versions of calculators, these help simply math statements within the screen. Also, these it makes things less complicated when typing the math statements into calculators. Having this funded would be so helpful! My class doesn't have enough calculators for every student in my class to use, thus makes teaching and learning a wee bit easier.
