I am on a mission to make sure that my sixth-grade classroom library has books from every voice so that all my students can be represented in the stories that they read. Equally as important, diverse books allow students to learn more about different experiences than their own, allowing them to grow empathy for others. The books on this list represent Hispanic, Black, and Asian voices as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community. These books are timely and relevant to the lives of today's students. These books are windows and mirrors into the lives of the students who fill the seats in my classroom.
