A lot of my students come to my classroom as struggling and, to be frank, discouraged readers. They often don't believe that there are books out there that they will enjoy! When a book sparks interest, it often gets passed from one student to another. Last year, a few students created their own book groups during independent reading time, but they struggled to find books with enough (4) copies stocked in our school library. I want to build my classroom library with multiple copies of contemporary titles written for young adults that my mostly Latinx students can see themselves in. This way they can read them in small groups, a la book club style, encouraging discussion and sharing their reading experience with one another. Project Lit Book Club inspired me with their amazing book list for 2020-2021 of YA titles. From their book list, I pored over descriptions and chose these 9 titles to beef up the options my students will have readily at hand for independent reading. Please help me reach this goal! I can't wait to put these books in my students' hands!
