These books will be used to help my students understand different cultures and stereotypes that minorities are sometimes associated with. I would like to open up discussions between my students in a safe environment where they can learn from their peers what a day in their life looks like. I will use these books for class discussion, partner discussion, and journal writing. They will be able to ask anonymous questions that will be put into a jar for students to respond to. I believe this will help build stronger relationships within the classroom that will follow them into the community and for the rest of their life. If students can understand from the perspective of their peers, it will be more beneficial than anything I can just stand up and teach. It will also help me, as a teacher, to understand my students better and what they may be going through.
