Our district currently determined that a hybrid model of learning will be how we return to school in August. While I am excited for the opportunity to be back with my students, there is going to be a lot of learning going on for all of us as we navigate this new system of education. For the past two years, my talented teammate and I have departmentalized. I teach ELA and Social Studies, while she teaches Math and Science. This system works well for us, but poses some issues with social distancing guidelines. Instead of children switching classrooms, teachers will be switching classrooms. I have included a cart for materials and projector stand for my laptop on my list to make this transition efficient. Students will also not be able to use community supplies, which is why I have chosen to provide them with their own storage boxes for supplies. I love being able to illustrate concepts in ELA and Social Studies through read alouds. These stories create opportunities for rich conversations and my fourth graders still love to be read to. I have included many culturally diverse read alouds on this list in an effort to expand the experiences and perspectives my students are exposed to and to spark those important conversations. Our state and district will provide hand sanitizer, but I have chosen to include it on my list, because as all teachers know, you can really never have enough!
