It's no secret that high school can be stressful. Add in a pandemic, a year of virtual/hybrid learning, and adjusting to the 'new normal,' and the need for a constructive way to decompress is all the more important. Some of my students have turned to knitting and crocheting as a way to destress, and they would like to start a club to share their craft with others. As someone who has been knitting/crocheting since literally before my students were born, I know firsthand the therapeutic benefits of some yarn and a hook or a set of needles. My only regret in my crafting life is that I didn't start knitting until college! I still use it as a tool to work through problems and process my thoughts, and I have often thought, "I wish I had been knitting in high school." We'd love to introduce more students to these crafts, but that takes resources. Help us purchase supplies for newbie crafters, and help some great kids find a healthy outlet for the many trials and tribulations of being a teenager!
