As a first year teacher, I am seeking to create a diverse and powerful classroom library. While I have compiled many books as I have embarked on the road to becoming a teacher, I currently need an even wider selection to build an effective and creative classroom library. I want to ensure that my first grade students have access to literature that is relevant, complex, and enjoyable. I want all of my students to see themselves, their way of life, and their interests in their classroom each day. As a proponent of integrated literacy instruction, I would like to have nonfiction and fiction options for my students to choose from.
